Fishing Report # 6

August 23 , 2010

Is summer really almost over? We are starting to get a little frost on the pumpkin at dawn but the days are as nice as they can be and the fishing is fabulous!

The fishing is getting going around 8:00A.M. with a Female Trico hatch followed about 8:30-9 with the Trico Spinner fall and the Caddis migration. The Trico patterns that have been doing well are the male and female Comparadun in size 22, the sprout male size 22 and the Organza Spinners sizes 20 and 22. The best Caddis patterns are all in sizes 20 and 22 and are Parachute Caddis in Grey and Brown, EC Caddis, Parachute Caddis Emerger, Low Profile Caddis in Olive and Brown and the Hot Creek Caddis. There is a #24 Baetis type of Mayfly coming off for about 45 minutes right at noon. Things slow down a bit mid-day and then pick back up about 2:30 or so with the Caddis and the Male Trico hatch gets going around 4:30. The Hopper fishing has been insane from noon to 4 and the evening Caddis grab has been really good too!

Water flows have leveled off with most of the snow now gone from the mountains.

The Fly Shop is well stocked with all of the best flies, Leaders, Tippet, Gink, powder shake and most everything else you will need to make the most of your day on the water. We also carry Tee shirts, Simms fishing shirts and hats, sun gloves, Buffs and nets.

For those of you who may not be familiar with Spring Creek fishing, we recommend a guide for your first ½ day so you are better prepared for the rest of your fishing vacation. As always, we have the very best guides in the area working with us.

The fishing is great and we can’t wait to see you here at Hot Creek Ranch!
